50:1 Der größte unter seinen Brüdern und der Stolz seines Volkes war der Hohepriester Simon, der Sohn des Onias, der zu seiner Zeit das Gotteshaus ausbesserte und in seinen Tagen den Tempelplatz befestigte,

50:1 Simon the high priest, the son of Onias, who in his life propped up the house, and in his days fortified the temple.

50:2 zu dessen Zeit die Mauer gebaut wurde (g), die Ecktürme und die Umfassungsmauer des Heiligtums;

50:2 By him also the height of the temple was founded, the double building and the high walls of the temple.

50:3 in dessen Tagen der Teich gegraben wurde, ein Wasserbecken wie ein Meer mit seiner Fülle (g?);

50:3 In his days the wells of water flowed out, and they were filled as the sea above measure.

50:4 der für sein Volk sorgte gegen die Räuberei (g) und die Hauptstadt gegen Belagerung befestigte.

50:4 He took care of his nation, and delivered it from destruction.

50:5 Wie herrlich war er beim Umzug des Volkes,

50:5 He prevailed to enlarge the city, and obtained glory in his conversation with the people: and enlarged the entrance of the house and the court.

50:6 wenn er hinter dem Vorhang [des Tempels] hervortrat! wie der Morgenstern zwischen Wolken hervor und wie der Vollmond an den Tagen des Festes;

50:6 He shone in his days as the morning star in the midst of a cloud, and as the moon at the full.

50:7 wie die Sonne, die auf den Tempel des Höchsten herabscheint, und wie der Regenbogen, der im Gewölk sichtbar wird;

50:7 And as the sun when it shineth, so did he shine in the temple of God.

50:8 wie eine Rosenblüte in der Frühlingszeit und wie Lilien an Wasserläufen; wie die Pflanzenpracht des Libanon zur Sommerzeit

50:8 And as the rainbow giving light in bright clouds, and as the flower of roses in the days of the spring, and as the lilies that are on the brink of the water, and as the sweet smelling frankincense in the time of summer.

50:9 und wie das Weihrauchfeuer über der Räucherpfanne; wie ein goldenes Gefäß ganz in getriebener Arbeit, geziert mit allerlei Edelgestein;

50:9 As a bright fire, and frankincense burning in the fire.

50:10 wie ein Ölbaum, der mit Früchten prangt, und wie eine Zypresse, die zu den Wolken emporragt (h).

50:10 As a massy vessel of gold, adorned with every precious stone.

50:11 Wenn er die Ehrengewänder anlegte und in den ganzen Schmuck sich kleidete; wenn er hinaufstieg zum heiligen Vater und den Vorhof des Heiligtums verherrlichte;

50:11 As an olive tree budding forth, and a cypress tree rearing itself on high, when he put on the robe of glory, and was clothed with the perfection of power.

50:12 wenn er die Fleischstücke aus der Hand seiner Brüder (g) nahm und er selbst an der Feuerstelle des Altars stand (h), rings um ihn der Kranz seiner Söhne (g) wie Zedernschößlinge auf dem Libanon, und ihn umringten wie Weiden am Bach

50:12 When he went up to the holy altar, he honoured the vesture of holiness.

50:13 alle Söhne Aarons in ihrem Schmuck und die Feueropfer des Herrn waren in ihren Händen vor der ganzen Gemeinde Israel,

50:13 And when he took the portions out of the hands of the priests, he himself stood by the altar. And about him was the ring of his brethren: and as the cedar planted in mount Libanus,

50:14 bis er den Dienst am Altar vollständig besorgt und die Holzstöße des Höchsten geschichtet hatte

50:14 And as branches of palm trees, they stood round about him, and all the sons of Aaron in their glory.

50:15 und er seine Hand nach der Opferschale ausstreckte und die Spende von Traubenblut darbrachte und sie an den Untersatz des Altars ausgoß zum lieblichen Wohlgeruch für den Höchsten, den Allkönig: –

50:15 And the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, before all the congregation of Israel: and finishing his service, on the altar, to honour the offering of the most high King,

50:16 dann stießen die Söhne Aarons in die Trompeten von getriebener Arbeit; sie bliesen und ließen einen gewaltigen Schall ertönen, um das Volk vor dem Höchsten in Erinnerung zu bringen.

50:16 He stretched forth his hand to make a libation, and offered of the blood of the grape.

50:17 Dann beeilte sich das ganze Volk allzumal und fiel auf sein Angesicht zur Erde nieder, um anzubeten vor dem Herrn, dem allmächtigen Gott, dem Allerhöchsten (h).

50:17 He poured out at the foot of the altar a divine odour to the most high Prince.

50:18 Und die Sänger ließen ihre Stimme erschallen, und im weiten Haus ertönte süß ihr Lied (h);

50:18 Then the sons of Aaron shouted, they sounded with beaten trumpets, and made a great noise to be heard for a remembrance before God.

50:19 und es jubelte das ganze Volk des Landes im Gebet vor dem Allerbarmer, bis er den Dienst des Herrn vollendet und, was ihm gebührte, dargebracht hatte (g).

50:19 Then all the people together made haste, and fell down to the earth upon their faces, to adore the Lord their God, and to pray to the Almighty God the most High.

50:20 Dann stieg er herab und erhob seine Hände über die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten, und der Segen des Herrn war auf seinen Lippen, und des Namens des Herrn rühmte er sich;

50:20 And the singers lifted up their voices, and in the great house the sound of sweet melody was increased.

50:21 dann fielen sie zum zweitenmal nieder, um den Segen vom Höchsten zu empfangen (h).

50:21 And the people in prayer besought the Lord the most High, until the worship of the Lord was perfected, and they had finished their office.

50:22 Und nun preist den Gott des Weltalls, der Großes vollbringt überall oder auf Erden (g), der unsere Tage beglückt vom Mutterleibe an und mit uns verfährt nach seiner Barmherzigkeit!

50:22 Then coming down, he lifted up his hands over all the congregation of the children of Israel, to give glory to God with his lips, and to glory in his name:

50:23 Er gebe uns Freude ins Herz (h) und lasse Frieden in unseren Tagen in Israel herrschen wie in den Tagen der Vorzeit (h).

50:23 And he repeated his prayer, willing to shew the power of God.

50:24 Möge seine Gnade beständig bei Simon bleiben [und er den Pinehasbund für ihn aufrecht halten, daß er weder ihm je gebrochen werde] noch seinen Nachkommen, solange der Himmel steht!

50:24 And now pray ye to the God of all, who hath done great things in all the earth, who hath increased our days from our mother's womb, and hath done with us according to his mercy.

50:25 Gegen zwei Völker empfindet mein Herz Abscheu, und das dritte ist kein Volk:

50:25 May he grant us joyfulness of heart, and that there be peace in our days in Israel for ever:

50:26 die Bewohner des Gebirges Seir und die Philister und das törichte Volk, das in Sichem wohnt.

50:26 That Israel may believe that the mercy of God is with us, to deliver us in his days.

50:27 Einsichtsvolle und verständige Lehre habe ich in diesem Buche aufgezeichnet, ich Jesus, Sirachs Sohn von Jerusalem, der Weisheit aus seinem Herzen hervorströmen ließ (h).

50:27 There are two nations which my soul abhorreth: and the third is no nation: which I hate:

50:28 Heil dem Manne, der darüber nachdenkt! und wer’s zu Herzen nimmt; wird weise werden;

50:28 They that sit on mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people that dwell in Sichem.

50:29 denn wenn er danach handelt, wird er Kraft zu allem haben, weil das Licht des Herrn seine Spur ist.

50:29 Jesus the son of Sirach, of Jerusalem, hath written in this book the doctrine of wisdom and instruction, who renewed wisdom from his heart.

50:30 Blessed is he that is conversant in these good things and he that layeth them up in his heart, shall be wise always.

50:31 For if he do them, he shall be strong to do all things: because the light of God guideth his steps.
