12:1 »Mit Treulosigkeit hat Ephraim mich umringt, mit Trug das Haus Israel«; auch Juda ist immer noch wankelmütig gegen Gott und gegen den Hochheiligen, der treu ist.

12:1 Ephraim hath compassed me about with denials, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Juda went down as a witness with God, and is faithful with the saints.

12:2 Ephraim hat seine Freude an windigem Treiben und jagt dem Ostwind nach: täglich wird es verlogener und eigenmächtiger; mit Assyrien schließen sie ein Bündnis, und nach Ägypten wird Öl gebracht.

12:2 Ephraim feedeth on the wind, and followeth the burning heat: all the day long he multiplied lies and desolation: and he hath made a covenant with the Assyrians, and carried oil into Egypt.

12:3 Auch gegen Juda hat der HERR Anklage zu erheben, und er muß Jakob zur Rechenschaft ziehen wegen seines Verhaltens, nach seinem ganzen Tun ihm vergelten.

12:3 Therefore there is a judgment of the Lord with Juda, and a visitation for Jacob: he will render to him according to his ways, and according to his devices.

12:4 Schon im Mutterschoß hat er seines Bruders Ferse gefaßt und in seiner Manneskraft mit Gott gerungen;

12:4 In the womb he supplanted his brother: and by his strength he had success with an angel.

12:5 er hat mit dem Engel gerungen und die Oberhand behalten, er hat geweint und ihn um Erbarmen angefleht; in Bethel hatte er ihn gefunden und daselbst mit ihm geredet –

12:5 And he prevailed over the angel, and was strengthened: he wept, and made supplication to him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us.

12:6 nämlich der HERR, der Gott der Heerscharen, dessen Name ›der HERR‹ ist –:

12:6 Even the Lord God of hosts, the Lord is his memorial.

12:7 »Du wirst in deine Zelte heimkehren! Halte an Liebe und Recht fest und hoffe immerdar auf deinen Gott!«

12:7 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and hope in thy God always.

12:8 Als (echter) Kanaanäer führt er eine falsche Waage in der Hand: er liebt es zu betrügen;

12:8 He is like Chanaan, there is a deceitful balance in his hand, he hath loved oppression.

12:9 aber Ephraim sagt: »Ich bin ja doch reich geworden, habe mir ein Vermögen erworben! Bei allem, was ich besitze, wird man mir kein Unrecht nachweisen, das Sünde wäre!«

12:9 And Ephraim said: But yet I am become rich, I have found me an idol: all my labours shall not find me the iniquity that I have committed.

12:10 »Ich aber, der HERR, dein Gott vom Lande Ägypten her, will dich noch einmal in Zelten wohnen lassen wie in den Tagen der Festfeier.

12:10 And I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the feast.

12:11 Ich habe doch zu den Propheten geredet, und ich bin es, der sich oftmals durch zahlreiche Gesichte kundgegeben und durch die Propheten in Gleichnissen geredet hat.

12:11 And I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and I have used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.

12:12 Wenn sie in Gilead nichtswürdig gewesen sind, so sollen sie auch vernichtet werden; haben sie in Gilgal Stiere geopfert, so sollen auch ihre Altäre (verwüstet und) wie Steinhaufen an den Rainen der Äcker werden!« –

12:12 If Galaad be an idol, then in vain were they in Galgal offering sacrifices with bullocks: for their altars also are as heaps in the furrows of the field.

12:13 Als Jakob einst ins Gefilde der Aramäer geflohen war, diente Israel als Knecht um ein Weib und hütete die Herden um ein (zweites) Weib;

12:13 Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and was a keeper for a wife.

12:14 und durch einen Propheten hat der HERR die Israeliten aus Ägypten heraufgeführt, und durch einen (anderen) Propheten ist es behütet worden.

12:14 But the Lord by a prophet brought Israel out of Egypt: and he was preserved by a prophet.

12:15 Doch Ephraim hat ihm bittere Kränkung bereitet; so wird denn sein Herr seine Blutschuld an ihm haften lassen und die ihm zugefügte Schmach ihm vergelten!

12:15 Ephraim hath provoked me to wrath with his bitterness, and his blood shall come upon him, and his Lord will render his reproach unto him.
