5:1 Folgt also dem Vorbild Gottes nach als (von ihm) geliebte Kinder

5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children:

5:2 und wandelt in der Liebe, wie auch Christus euch geliebt und sich selbst für uns als Weihegabe und Opfer dargebracht hat, Gott zu einem lieblichen Wohlgeruch.

5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odour of sweetness.

5:3 Unzucht aber und Unsittlichkeit jeder Art oder Geldgier dürfen bei euch nicht einmal mit Namen erwähnt werden, wie es sich für Heilige geziemt,

5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints:

5:4 ebensowenig unanständiges Wesen und fades Geschwätz oder leichtfertige Witze, die sich für euch nicht schicken würden, statt dessen vielmehr Danksagung.

5:4 Or obscenity or foolish talking or scurrility, which is to no purpose: but rather giving of thanks.

5:5 Denn das wißt und erkennt ihr wohl, daß kein Unzüchtiger und Unsittlicher, kein Geldgieriger – das ist gleichbedeutend mit Götzendiener – ein Erbteil im Reiche Christi und Gottes hat.

5:5 For know you this and understand: That no fornicator or unclean or covetous person (which is a serving of idols) hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

5:6 Laßt euch von niemand durch leere Worte betrügen; denn um solcher Dinge willen kommt Gottes Zorn über die Ungehorsamen.

5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief.

5:7 Macht euch daher nicht zu ihren Mitgenossen;

5:7 Be ye not therefore partakers with them.

5:8 denn früher seid ihr zwar Finsternis gewesen, jetzt aber seid ihr Licht im Herrn: führt euren Wandel als Kinder des Lichts –

5:8 For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light.

5:9 die Frucht des Lichts erweist sich nämlich in lauter Gütigkeit, Gerechtigkeit und Wahrheit –,

5:9 For the fruit of the light is in all goodness and justice and truth:

5:10 und prüfet dabei, was dem Herrn wohlgefällig ist.

5:10 Proving what is well pleasing to God.

5:11 Habt auch nichts zu tun mit den unfruchtbaren Werken der Finsternis, legt vielmehr mißbilligend Zeugnis gegen sie ab;

5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness: but rather reprove them.

5:12 denn was im Verborgenen von ihnen getrieben wird, davon auch nur zu reden ist schandbar.

5:12 For the things that are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of.

5:13 Das alles wird aber, wenn es aufgedeckt wird, vom Licht getroffen und offenbar gemacht; denn alles, was offenbar gemacht wird, ist Licht.

5:13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for all that is made manifest is light.

5:14 Daher heißt es auch: »Wache auf, du Schläfer, und stehe auf von den Toten! Dann wird Christus dir aufleuchten.«

5:14 Wherefore he saith: Rise, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead: and Christ shall enlighten thee.

5:15 Achtet also genau darauf, wie ihr wandelt, nicht als Unweise, sondern als Weise,

5:15 See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise,

5:16 indem ihr die Zeit auskauft, denn die Tage sind böse.

5:16 But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

5:17 Darum zeigt euch nicht unverständig, sondern sucht zu verstehen, welches der Wille des Herrn ist.

5:17 Wherefore, become not unwise: but understanding what is the will of God.

5:18 Berauscht euch auch nicht an Wein, was zur Liederlichkeit führt, sondern werdet voll Geistes,

5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury: but be ye filled with the Holy Spirit,

5:19 so daß ihr zueinander mit Psalmen, Lobgesängen und geistlichen Liedern redet und dem Herrn in eurem Herzen singt und spielt;

5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord:

5:20 und sagt Gott dem Vater allezeit Dank für alles im Namen unsers Herrn Jesus Christus.

5:20 Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father:

5:21 Ordnet euch einander unter, wie es die Furcht vor Christus verlangt:

5:21 Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ.

5:22 Die Frauen seien ihren Ehemännern untertan, als gälte es dem Herrn;

5:22 Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord:

5:23 denn der Mann ist das Haupt der Frau, ebenso wie Christus das Haupt der Gemeinde ist, er freilich ist (zugleich) der Retter seines Leibes;

5:23 Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body.

5:24 dennoch, wie die Gemeinde (dem Herrn) Christus untertan ist, so sollen es auch die Frauen ihren Männern in jeder Beziehung sein.

5:24 Therefore as the church is subject to Christ: so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things.

5:25 Ihr Männer, liebet eure Frauen, wie auch Christus die Gemeinde geliebt und sich für sie dahingegeben hat,

5:25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church and delivered himself up for it:

5:26 um sie zu heiligen, nachdem er sie durch das Wasserbad im Wort gereinigt hat,

5:26 That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life:

5:27 um so die Gemeinde für sich selbst in herrlicher Schönheit hinzustellen, ohne Flecken und Runzeln oder irgendeinen derartigen Fehler, vielmehr so, daß sie heilig und ohne Tadel sei.

5:27 That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

5:28 Ebenso sind auch die Männer verpflichtet, ihre Frauen wie ihre eigenen Leiber zu lieben. Wer seine Frau liebt, liebt sich selbst;

5:28 So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

5:29 es hat ja doch noch nie ein Mensch sein eigenes Fleisch gehaßt, sondern jeder hegt und pflegt es, ebenso wie Christus es mit der Gemeinde tut,

5:29 For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church:

5:30 denn wir sind Glieder seines Leibes, Fleisch von seinem Fleisch und Bein von seinem Bein.

5:30 Because we are members of him, body, of his flesh and of his bones.

5:31 »Deshalb wird ein Mann Vater und Mutter verlassen und seinem Weibe anhangen, und die beiden werden ein Fleisch sein.«

5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother: and shall cleave to his wife. And they shall be two in one flesh.

5:32 Hier liegt ein großes Geheimnis vor; ich deute es auf Christus und die Gemeinde.

5:32 This is a great sacrament: but I speak in Christ and in the church.

5:33 Doch wie dem auch sei: auch bei euch soll ein jeder seine Frau so lieben wie sich selbst; die Frau aber soll ihrem Manne mit Furcht begegnen.

5:33 Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular love for his wife as himself: And let the wife fear her husband.
