1:1 Als nun Salomo, der Sohn Davids, sich in seiner Herrschaft befestigt hatte – der HERR, sein Gott, war nämlich mit ihm und ließ ihn überaus mächtig werden –,

1:1 And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him, and magnified him to a high degree.

1:2 da ließ Salomo Befehl an ganz Israel ergehen, an die Befehlshaber der Tausendschaften und der Hundertschaften, an die Richter und alle Fürsten von ganz Israel, die Familienhäupter;

1:2 And Solomon gave orders to all Israel, to the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and to the rulers, and to the judges of all Israel, and the heads of the families:

1:3 und dann begab sich Salomo mit der ganzen Volksgemeinde nach der Höhe bei Gibeon; denn dort befand sich das Offenbarungszelt Gottes, das Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, in der Wüste hergestellt hatte –

1:3 And he went with all the multitude to the high place of Gabaon, where was the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, which Moses the servant of God made, in the wilderness.

1:4 dagegen die Lade Gottes hatte David aus Kirjath-Jearim an den Platz hinaufgebracht, den David für sie hatte herrichten lassen; denn er hatte für sie in Jerusalem ein Zelt aufschlagen lassen –.

1:4 For David had brought the ark of God from Cariathiarim to the place, which he had prepared for it, and where he had pitched a tabernacle for it, that is, in Jerusalem.

1:5 Auch der kupferne Altar, den Bezaleel, der Sohn Uris, des Sohnes Hurs, hergestellt hatte, stand dort (in Gibeon) vor der Wohnung des HERRN; und Salomo und die Volksgemeinde suchten ihn dort auf.

1:5 And the altar of brass, which Beseleel the son of Uri the son of Hur had made, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord: and Solomon and all the assembly sought it:

1:6 Salomo opferte dann dort vor dem HERRN auf dem kupfernen Altar, der zum Offenbarungszelt gehörte, und brachte tausend Brandopfer auf ihm dar.

1:6 And Solomon went up thither to the brazen altar, before the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up on it a thousand victims.

1:7 In jener Nacht erschien Gott dem Salomo und sprach zu ihm: »Bitte, was ich dir geben soll!«

1:7 And behold that night God appeared to him, saying: Ask what thou wilt that I should give thee.

1:8 Da antwortete Salomo dem HERRN: »Du hast meinem Vater David große Liebe erwiesen und hast mich zum König an seiner Statt gemacht.

1:8 And Solomon said to God: Thou hast shewn great kindness to my father David: and hast made me king in his stead.

1:9 So laß denn, HERR, mein Gott, deine Verheißung, die du meinem Vater David gegeben hast, in Erfüllung gehen! denn du hast mich zum König über ein Volk gemacht, das so zahlreich ist wie der Staub auf dem Erdboden.

1:9 Now therefore, O Lord God, let thy word be fulfilled, which thou hast promised to David my father: for thou hast made me king over thy great people, which is as innumerable as the dust of the earth.

1:10 So verleihe mir nun Weisheit und Einsicht, damit ich mich diesem Volk gegenüber in rechter Weise zu verhalten weiß; denn wer vermöchte sonst dieses dein großes Volk zu regieren?«

1:10 Give me wisdom and knowledge that I may come in and go out before thy people: for who can worthily judge this thy people, which is so great?

1:11 Darauf sagte Gott zu Salomo: »Weil du solche Gesinnung hegst und nicht um Reichtum, Schätze und Ehre oder um den Tod deiner Feinde, auch nicht um langes Leben gebeten, sondern dir Weisheit und Einsicht erbeten hast, um mein Volk, zu dessen König ich dich gemacht habe, regieren zu können:

1:11 And God said to Solomon: Because this choice hath pleased thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, and wealth, and glory, nor the lives of them that hate thee, nor many days of life: but hast asked wisdom and knowledge, to be able to judge my people, over which I have made thee king,

1:12 so soll dir die (erbetene) Weisheit und Einsicht verliehen sein; aber auch Reichtum, Schätze und Ehre will ich dir schenken, wie keiner von den Königen vor dir sie besessen hat und wie sie keiner nach dir jemals besitzen wird.«

1:12 Wisdom and knowledge are granted to thee: and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and glory, so that none of the kings before thee, nor after thee, shall be like thee.

1:13 Darauf kehrte Salomo von der Höhe bei Gibeon, von dem Platz vor dem Offenbarungszelt, nach Jerusalem zurück und herrschte über Israel.

1:13 Then Solomon came from the high place of Gabaon to Jerusalem before the tabernacle of the covenant, and reigned over Israel.

1:14 Salomo brachte zahlreiche Kriegswagen und Reitpferde zusammen, so daß er 1400 Wagen und 12000 Reitpferde besaß, die er in den Wagenstädten oder in seiner Nähe zu Jerusalem unterbrachte.

1:14 And he gathered to himself chariots and horsemen, and he had a thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen: and he placed them in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.

1:15 Und der König brachte es dahin, daß es in Jerusalem so viel Silber und Gold gab wie Steine und daß die Zedernstämme den Maulbeerfeigenbäumen in der Niederung an Menge gleichkamen.

1:15 And the king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees as sycamores, which grow in the plains in great multitude.

1:16 Der Bezug der Pferde für Salomo erfolgte aus Ägypten, und zwar aus Koa; die Händler des Königs kauften sie nämlich dort in Koa auf,

1:16 And there were horses brought him from Egypt, and from Coa by the king's merchants, who went, and bought at a price,

1:17 so daß ein Wagen bei der Ausfuhr aus Ägypten auf sechshundert Schekel Silber zu stehen kam und ein Pferd auf einhundertundfünfzig. Ebenso wurden sie durch ihre Vermittlung an alle Könige der Hethiter und an die Könige von Syrien ausgeführt.

1:17 A chariot of four horses for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: in like manner market was made in all the kingdoms of the Hethites, and of the kings of Syria.

1:18 Darauf beschloß Salomo, dem Namen des HERRN einen Tempel und für sich selbst einen Königspalast zu bauen.

1:18 And Solomon determined to build a house to the name of the Lord, and a palace for himself.
