2:1 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, and that preacheth peace: O Juda, keep thy festivals, and pay thy vows: for Belial shall no more pass through thee again, he is utterly cut off.

2:1 Sehet da: auf den Bergen die Schritte eines Freudenboten, der Heil verkündigt! Feiere, Juda, deine Feste, erfülle deine Gelübde! Denn hinfort wird der Nichtswürdige dich nicht mehr durchziehen: er ist völlig vernichtet.

2:2 He is come up that shall destroy before thy face, that shall keep the siege: watch the way, fortify thy loins, strengthen thy power exceedingly.

2:2 Es rückt gegen dich (Ninive) der Zerstörer heran: wahre die Festung, überwache die Straße, lege dir den Gurt fest um die Hüften, nimm alle Kraft zusammen!

2:3 For the Lord hath rendered the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel: because the spoilers have laid them waste, and have marred their vine branches.

2:3 Denn der HERR stellt den Weinstock Jakobs wieder her gleichwie den Weinstock Israels; denn Verwüster haben sie verwüstet und ihre Ranken vernichtet.

2:4 The shield of his mighty men is like fire, the men of the army are clad in scarlet, the reins of the chariot are flaming in the day of his preparation, and the drivers are stupefied.

2:4 Die Schilde seiner Krieger sind rot gefärbt, die Mannen in Scharlach gekleidet; es funkelt der Stahl an den Kriegswagen, sooft er sie zurüstet, und die Lanzen werden geschwungen.

2:5 They are in confusion in the ways, the chariots jostle one against another in the streets: their looks are like torches, like lightning running to and fro.

2:5 Auf den Straßen rasen die Wagen einher, jagen auf den freien Plätzen dahin; wie Fackeln sind sie anzusehen, wie Blitze fahren sie hin und her.

2:6 He will muster up his valiant men, they shall stumble in their march: they shall quickly get upon the walls thereof: and a covering shall be prepared.

2:6 Er bietet seine Edlen auf: strauchelnd kommen sie auf ihren Bahnen herbei; sie eilen hin zur Mauer der Stadt, doch schon ist das Schutzdach aufgestellt.

2:7 The gates of the rivers are opened, and the temple is thrown down to the ground.

2:7 Die Tore an den Strömen werden erbrochen: da verzagt der Palast.

2:8 And the soldier is led away captive: and her bondwomen were led away mourning as doves, murmuring in their hearts.

2:8 Die Königin wird entkleidet und weggeführt, während ihre Mägde wie girrende Tauben schluchzen und sich auf den Busen schlagen.

2:9 And as for Ninive, her waters are like a great pool: but the men flee away. They cry: Stand, stand, but there is none that will return back.

2:9 Ninive ist wie ein Teich, dessen Wasser entweichen. (Wohl ruft man:) »Halt, halt!«, doch niemand wendet sich um.

2:10 Take ye the spoil of the silver, take the spoil of the gold: for there is no end of the riches of all the precious furniture.

2:10 »Raubt Silber, raubt Gold!« Denn unermeßlich ist der Vorrat, die Fülle von Kostbarkeiten jeder Art.

2:11 She is destroyed, and rent, and torn: the heart melteth, and the knees fail, and all the loins lose their strength: and the faces of them all are as the blackness of a kettle.

2:11 O Öde, Verödung und Verheerung! Verzagte Herzen und schlotternde Knie, Zittern in allen Lenden und Totenblässe in allen Gesichtern!

2:12 Where is now the dwelling of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, to which the lion went, to enter in thither, the young lion, and there was none to make them afraid?

2:12 Wo ist nun die Behausung der Löwen und die Lagerstätte der jungen Leuen, wo der Löwe, die Löwin umherstreifte und das Löwenjunge, von niemand aufgeschreckt?

2:13 The lion caught enough for his whelps, and killed for his lionesses: and he filled his holes with prey, and his den with rapine.

2:13 Der Löwe raubte, bis seine Jungen genug hatten, und mordete für seine Löwinnen; er füllte seine Höhlen mit Raub an und seine Schlupfwinkel mit zerrissenen (Beutetieren).

2:14 Behold I come against thee, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will burn thy chariots even to smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey out of the land, and the voice of thy messengers shall be heard no more.

2:14 »Nunmehr will ich an dich« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN der Heerscharen – »und will deine Kriegswagen in Rauch aufgehen lassen; deine jungen Leuen soll das Schwert fressen, und ich will deinem Rauben auf der Erde ein Ende machen, und die Stimme deiner Sendlinge soll man fortan nicht mehr vernehmen!«
