5:1 And they came over the strait of the sea, into the country of the Gerasens.

5:1 Sie kamen dann an das jenseitige Ufer des Sees in das Gebiet der Gerasener.

5:2 And as he went out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the monuments a man with an unclean spirit,

5:2 Als er dort aus dem Boot gestiegen war, lief ihm sogleich von den Gräbern her ein Mann entgegen, der von einem unreinen Geist besessen war.

5:3 Who had his dwelling in the tombs, and no man now could bind him, not even with chains.

5:3 Er hatte seinen Aufenthalt in den Gräbern, und niemand vermochte ihn zu fesseln, auch nicht mit einer Kette;

5:4 For having been often bound with fetters and chains, he had burst the chains, and broken the fetters in pieces, and no one could tame him.

5:4 denn man hatte ihn schon oft mit Fußfesseln und Ketten gebunden, aber er hatte die Ketten immer wieder zerrissen und die Fußfesseln zerrieben, und niemand war stark genug, ihn zu überwältigen.

5:5 And he was always day and night in the monuments and in the mountains, crying and cutting himself with stones.

5:5 Er hielt sich allezeit, bei Tag und bei Nacht, in den Gräbern und auf den Bergen auf, schrie laut und zerschlug sich mit Steinen.

5:6 And seeing Jesus afar off, he ran and adored him.

5:6 Als er nun Jesus von weitem sah, kam er herzugelaufen, warf sich vor ihm nieder

5:7 And crying with a loud voice, he said: What have I to do with thee, Jesus the Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God that thou torment me not.

5:7 und stieß laut schreiend die Worte aus: »Was willst du von mir, Jesus, du Sohn Gottes, des Höchsten? Ich beschwöre dich bei Gott: quäle mich nicht!«

5:8 For he said unto him: Go out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

5:8 Jesus war nämlich im Begriff, ihm zu gebieten: »Fahre aus, du unreiner Geist, aus dem Manne!«

5:9 And he asked him: What is thy name? And he saith to him: My name is Legion, for we are many.

5:9 Da fragte Jesus ihn: »Wie heißt du?« Er antwortete ihm: »Legion heiße ich, denn wir sind unser viele.«

5:10 And he besought him much, that he would not drive him away out of the country.

5:10 Dann bat er ihn inständig, er möchte sie nicht aus der Gegend verweisen.

5:11 And there was there near the mountain a great herd of swine, feeding.

5:11 Nun befand sich dort am Berge eine große Herde Schweine auf der Weide.

5:12 And the spirits besought him, saying: Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

5:12 Da baten sie ihn: »Schicke uns in die Schweine! Laß uns in sie fahren!«

5:13 And Jesus immediately gave them leave. And the unclean spirits going out, entered into the swine: and the herd with great violence was carried headlong into the sea, being about two thousand, were stifled in the sea.

5:13 Das erlaubte Jesus ihnen auch, und so fuhren denn die unreinen Geister aus und fuhren in die Schweine hinein; und die Herde stürmte den Abhang hinab in den See hinein, etwa zweitausend Tiere, und sie ertranken im See.

5:14 And they that fed them fled, and told it in the city and in the fields. And they went out to see what was done:

5:14 Ihre Hirten aber ergriffen die Flucht und berichteten den Vorfall in der Stadt und in den Gehöften; da kamen die Leute, um zu sehen, was geschehen war.

5:15 And they came to Jesus, and they see him that was troubled with the devil, sitting, clothed, and well in his wits, and they were afraid.

5:15 Als sie nun zu Jesus gekommen waren, sahen sie den (früher) Besessenen ruhig dasitzen, bekleidet und ganz vernünftig, ihn, der die Legion (unreiner Geister) in sich gehabt hatte, und sie gerieten darüber in Furcht.

5:16 And they that had seen it, told them, in what manner he had been dealt with who had the devil; and concerning the swine.

5:16 Die Augenzeugen erzählten ihnen nun, was mit dem Besessenen vorgegangen war, und auch die Begebenheit mit den Schweinen.

5:17 And they began to pray him that he would depart from their coasts.

5:17 Da verlegten sie sich aufs Bitten, er möchte ihr Gebiet verlassen.

5:18 And when he went up into the ship, he that had been troubled with the devil, began to beseech him that he might be with him.

5:18 Als er dann ins Boot steigen wollte, bat ihn der (früher) Besessene, bei ihm bleiben zu dürfen;

5:19 And he admitted him not, but saith him: Go into thy house to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had mercy thee.

5:19 doch Jesus gestattete es ihm nicht, sondern sagte zu ihm: »Gehe heim in dein Haus zu deinen Angehörigen und berichte ihnen, wie Großes der Herr an dir getan und wie er sich deiner erbarmt hat!«

5:20 And he went his way, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men wondered.

5:20 Da ging er weg und begann in der Landschaft der Zehn-Städte zu verkündigen, wie Großes Jesus an ihm getan hatte; und alle verwunderten sich darüber.

5:21 And when Jesus had passed again in the ship over the strait, a great multitude assembled together unto him, and he was nigh unto the sea.

5:21 Als Jesus dann im Boot wieder an das jenseitige Ufer hinübergefahren war, sammelte sich eine große Volksmenge bei ihm, während er sich noch am See befand.

5:22 And there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue named Jairus: and seeing him, falleth down at his feet.

5:22 Da kam einer von den Vorstehern der Synagoge namens Jairus, und als er Jesus erblickte, warf er sich vor ihm nieder

5:23 And he besought him much, saying: My daughter is at the point of death, come, lay thy hand upon her, that she may be safe, and may live.

5:23 und bat ihn inständig mit den Worten: »Mein Töchterlein ist todkrank; komm doch und lege ihr die Hände auf, damit sie gerettet wird und am Leben bleibt!«

5:24 And he went with him, and a great multitude followed him, and they thronged him.

5:24 Da ging Jesus mit ihm; es folgte ihm aber eine große Volksmenge und umdrängte ihn.

5:25 And a woman who was under an issue of blood twelve years,

5:25 Nun war da eine Frau, die schon zwölf Jahre lang am Blutfluß gelitten

5:26 And had suffered many things from many physicians; and had spent all that she had, and was nothing the better, but rather worse,

5:26 und mit vielen Ärzten viel durchgemacht und ihr ganzes Vermögen dabei zugesetzt hatte, ohne Nutzen davon gehabt zu haben – es war vielmehr immer noch schlimmer mit ihr geworden –;

5:27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the crowd behind him, and touched his garment.

5:27 die hatte von Jesus gehört und kam nun in der Volksmenge von hinten herzu und faßte seinen Rock;

5:28 For she said: If I shall touch but his garment, I shall be whole.

5:28 sie dachte nämlich: »Wenn ich auch nur seine Kleider anfasse, so wird mir geholfen sein.«

5:29 And forthwith the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the evil.

5:29 Und sogleich hörte ihr Blutfluß auf, und sie spürte in ihrem Körper, daß sie von ihrem Leiden geheilt war.

5:30 And immediately Jesus knowing in himself the virtue that had proceeded from him, turning to the multitude, said: Who hath touched my garments?

5:30 Da nun auch Jesus sogleich die Empfindung in sich hatte, daß die Heilungskraft von ihm ausgegangen war, wandte er sich in der Volksmenge um und fragte: »Wer hat meine Kleider angefaßt?«

5:31 And his disciples said to him: Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou who hath touched me?

5:31 Da sagten seine Jünger zu ihm: »Du siehst doch, wie sehr die Volksmenge dich umdrängt, und da fragst du: ›Wer hat mich angefaßt?‹«

5:32 And he looked about to see her who had done this.

5:32 Doch er blickte rings um sich nach der, die es getan hatte.

5:33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

5:33 Da kam die Frau voller Angst und zitternd herbei, weil sie wohl wußte, was mit ihr vorgegangen war, warf sich vor ihm nieder und bekannte ihm die ganze Wahrheit.

5:34 And he said to her: Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole: go in peace, and be thou whole of thy disease.

5:34 Er aber sagte zu ihr: »Meine Tochter, dein Glaube hat dich gerettet: gehe hin in Frieden und sei von deinem Leiden geheilt!«

5:35 While he was yet speaking, some come from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying: Thy daughter is dead: why dost thou trouble the master any further?

5:35 Während er noch redete, kamen Leute aus dem Hause des Synagogenvorstehers mit der Meldung: »Deine Tochter ist gestorben: was bemühst du den Meister noch?«

5:36 But Jesus having heard the word that was spoken, saith to the ruler of the synagogue: Fear not, only believe.

5:36 Jesus aber ließ die Nachricht, die da gemeldet wurde, unbeachtet und sagte zu dem Synagogenvorsteher: »Fürchte dich nicht, glaube nur!«

5:37 And he admitted not any man to follow him, but Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

5:37 Und er ließ niemand mit sich gehen außer Petrus, Jakobus und Johannes, den Bruders des Jakobus.

5:38 And they cone to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he seeth a tumult, and people weeping and wailing much.

5:38 So kamen sie zum Hause des Synagogenvorstehers, wo er das Getümmel wahrnahm und wie sie weinten und laut wehklagten.

5:39 And going in, he saith to them Why make you this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

5:39 Als er dann eingetreten war, sagte er zu den Leuten: »Wozu lärmt und weint ihr? Das Kind ist nicht tot, sondern schläft nur!«

5:40 And they laughed him to scorn. But he having put them all out, taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

5:40 Da verlachten sie ihn. Er aber entfernte alle aus dem Hause, nahm nur den Vater des Kindes nebst der Mutter und seine Jünger, die ihn begleiteten, mit sich und ging (in das Zimmer) hinein, wo das Kind lag.

5:41 And taking the damsel by the hand, he saith to her: Talitha cumi, which is, being interpreted: Damsel (I say to thee) arise.

5:41 Dann faßte er das Kind bei der Hand und sagte zu ihm: »Talitha kumi!«, was übersetzt heißt: »Mädchen, ich sage dir: stehe auf!«

5:42 And immediately the damsel rose up, and walked: and she was twelve years old: and they were astonished with a great astonishment.

5:42 Da stand das Mädchen sogleich auf und ging umher; denn sie war zwölf Jahre alt. Da gerieten sie sofort vor Staunen ganz außer sich.

5:43 And he charged them strictly that no man should know it: and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

5:43 Er gebot ihnen dann ernstlich, niemand solle etwas von dem Geschehenen erfahren, und ordnete an, man möge ihr zu essen geben.
