1:1 The words of Jeremias the son of Helcias, of the priests that were in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin.

1:1 (Dies sind) die Reden Jeremias, des Sohnes Hilkias, der zu der Priesterschaft in Anathoth im Lande Benjamin gehörte;

1:2 The word of the Lord which came to him in the days of Josias the son of Amon king of Juda, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

1:2 an ihn erging das Wort des HERRN in den Tagen des jüdäischen Königs Josia, des Sohnes Amons, im dreizehnten Jahre seiner Regierung,

1:3 And which came to him in the days of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, unto the end of the eleventh year of Sedecias the son of Josias king of Juda, even unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive, in the fifth month.

1:3 und erging dann auch noch weiter an ihn in den Tagen des judäischen Königs Jojakim, des Sohnes Josias, bis zum Ablauf des elften Regierungsjahres des judäischen Königs Zedekia, des Sohnes Josias, bis zur Wegführung (der Bewohner) Jerusalems im fünften Monat (des elften Regierungsjahres Zedekias).

1:4 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

1:4 Es erging aber das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:

1:5 Before I formed thee in the bowels of thy mother, I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and made thee a prophet unto the nations.

1:5 »Noch ehe ich dich im Mutterschoße bildete, habe ich dich erwählt, und ehe du das Licht der Welt erblicktest, habe ich dich geweiht: zum Propheten für die Völker habe ich dich bestimmt.«

1:6 And I said: Ah, ah, ah, Lord God: behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child.

1:6 Da antwortete ich: »Ach, HERR, mein Gott, sieh doch: ich verstehe ja nicht zu reden, denn ich bin noch so jung!«

1:7 And the Lord said to me: Say not: I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee: and whatsoever I shall command thee, thou shalt speak.

1:7 Doch der HERR erwiderte mir: »Sage nicht, du seiest noch so jung! Denn zu allen, wohin ich dich senden werde, sollst du gehen, und alles, was ich dir auftragen werde, sollst du reden.

1:8 Be not afraid at their presence: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

1:8 Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen; denn ich bin mit dir, um dich zu behüten!« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN.

1:9 And the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth: and the Lord said to me: Behold I have given my words in thy mouth:

1:9 Hierauf streckte der HERR seine Hand aus und berührte meinen Mund mit ihr; dann sagte der HERR zu mir: »Hiermit lege ich meine Worte in deinen Mund!

1:10 Lo, I have set thee this day over the nations, and over kingdoms, to root up, and to pull down, and to waste, and to destroy, and to build, and to plant.

1:10 Wisse wohl: ich bestelle dich heute über die Völker und über die Königreiche, um auszureißen und niederzureißen, zu vernichten und zu zerstören, (aber auch) um aufzubauen und zu pflanzen.«

1:11 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: What seest thou, Jeremias? And I said: I see a rod watching.

1:11 Weiter erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen: »Was siehst du, Jeremia?« Ich antwortete: »Einen Zweig vom wachen Baum sehe ich.«

1:12 And the Lord said to me: Thou hast seen well: for I will watch over my word to perform it.

1:12 Da sagte der HERR zu mir: »Du hast richtig gesehen: ja, ich wache über meinem Wort, um es in Erfüllung gehen zu lassen!«

1:13 And the word of the Lord came to me a second time saying: What seest thou? And I said: I see a boiling caldron, and the face thereof from the face of the north.

1:13 Hierauf erging das Wort des HERRN an mich noch einmal folgendermaßen: »Was siehst du?« Ich antwortete: »Einen siedenden Kessel sehe ich, dessen Vorderseite von Norden her (gegen Süden) gerichtet ist.«

1:14 And the Lord said to me: From the north shall an evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

1:14 Da sagte der HERR zu mir: »Ja, von Norden her wird das Unglück sich siedend über alle Bewohner des Landes ergießen.

1:15 For behold I will call together all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the Lord: and they shall come, and shall set every one his throne in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all the walls thereof round about, and upon all the cities of Juda.

1:15 Denn gib acht: ich will alle Völkerstämme der Reiche im Norden entbieten« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, »daß sie heranziehen und ein jeder seinen Thron aufstellt an den Eingang der Tore Jerusalems und gegen alle Mauern der Stadt ringsum und gegen alle Städte Judas.

1:16 And I will pronounce my judgments against them, touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, and have adored the work of their own hands.

1:16 Dann will ich Abrechnung mit ihnen halten wegen all ihrer Bosheit, daß sie von mir abgefallen sind und anderen Göttern geopfert und die Machwerke ihrer Hände angebetet haben.«

1:17 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command thee. Be not afraid at their presence: for I will make thee not to fear their countenance.

1:17 »Du aber, gürte dir die Hüften, mache dich auf und verkünde ihnen alles, was ich dir gebieten werde! Erschrick nicht vor ihnen, sonst setze ich dich vor ihnen in Schrecken!

1:18 For behold I have made thee this day a fortified city, and a pillar of iron, and a wall of brass, over all the land, to the kings of Juda, to the princes thereof, and to the priests, and to the people of the land.

1:18 Denn wisse wohl: Ich selbst mache dich heute zu einer festen Burg, zu einer eisernen Säule und zu einer ehernen Mauer gegen das ganze Land, sowohl gegen die Könige von Juda als auch gegen dessen Fürsten, gegen dessen Priester und gegen die ganze Bevölkerung des Landes.

1:19 And they shall fight against them, and shall not prevail: for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.

1:19 Wenn sie auch gegen dich anstürmen, sollen sie dich doch nicht bezwingen; denn ich bin mit dir« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, »um dich zu behüten!«
