5:1 Go to now, ye rich men: weep and howl in your miseries, which shall come upon you.

5:1 Weiter nun: Ihr Reichen, weinet und jammert über die Leiden, die euch bevorstehen!

5:2 Your riches are corrupted: and your garments are motheaten.

5:2 Euer Reichtum ist vermodert, und eure Gewänder sind ein Fraß für die Motten geworden,

5:3 Your gold and silver is cankered: and the rust of them shall be for a testimony against you and shall eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up to yourselves wrath against the last days.

5:3 euer Gold und Silber ist vom Rost angefressen, und ihr Rost wird ein Zeugnis für euch sein, und der Rost wird euer Fleisch fressen wie Feuer. Noch jetzt in der Endzeit habt ihr euch Schätze gesammelt!

5:4 Behold the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which by fraud has been kept back by you, crieth: and the cry of them hath entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

5:4 Wisset wohl: Der Lohn, den ihr den Arbeitern, die eure Ernte eingebracht haben, vorenthalten habt, schreit (aus euren Häusern zum Himmel empor), und die Klagerufe eurer Schnitter sind zu den Ohren des Herrn der Heerscharen gedrungen.

5:5 You have feasted upon earth: and in riotousness you have nourished your hearts, in the day of slaughter.

5:5 Ihr habt hier auf Erden geschwelgt und gepraßt, habt euch noch am Tage der Schlachtung nach Herzenslust gütlich getan.

5:6 You have condemned and put to death the Just One: and he resisted you not.

5:6 Ihr habt den Gerechten verurteilt, ihn gemordet; er leistet euch keinen Widerstand.

5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth: patiently bearing till he receive the early and latter rain.

5:7 So harret denn standhaft aus, liebe Brüder, bis zur Ankunft des Herrn! Bedenket: Der Landmann wartet auf die köstliche Frucht der Erde und geduldet sich ihretwegen, bis sie den Früh- und Spätregen empfängt.

5:8 Be you therefore also patient and strengthen your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

5:8 So haltet auch ihr geduldig aus und macht eure Herzen fest, denn die Ankunft des Herrn steht nahe bevor.

5:9 Grudge not, brethren, one against another, that you may not be judged. Behold the judge standeth before the door.

5:9 Seufzt nicht gegeneinander, liebe Brüder, damit ihr nicht gerichtet werdet! Bedenkt wohl: Der Richter steht (schon) vor der Tür!

5:10 Take, my brethren, for example of suffering evil, of labour and patience, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

5:10 Nehmt euch, liebe Brüder, für die Leiden und das geduldige Aushalten die Propheten zum Vorbild, die im Namen des Herrn geredet haben!

5:11 Behold, we account them blessed who have endured. You have heard of the patience of Job and you have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is merciful and compassionate.

5:11 Seht, wir preisen die selig, welche geduldig ausgeharrt haben. Vom standhaften Ausharren Hiobs habt ihr gehört und von dem Ausgang, den der Herr ihm bereitet hat; erkennet daraus, daß der Herr reich an Mitleid und voll Erbarmens ist.

5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath. But let your speech be: Yea, Yea: No, No: that you fall not under judgment.

5:12 Vor allem aber, meine Brüder, schwöret nicht, weder beim Himmel noch bei der Erde noch sonst irgendeinen Eid; es sei vielmehr euer Ja ein Ja und euer Nein ein Nein, damit ihr nicht dem Gericht verfallt.

5:13 Is any of you sad? Let him pray: Is he cheerful in mind? Let him sing.

5:13 Hat jemand unter euch zu leiden, so bete er; geht es jemandem gut, so singe er Loblieder.

5:14 Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the priests of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

5:14 Ist jemand unter euch krank, so lasse er die Ältesten der Gemeinde zu sich kommen; diese sollen dann über ihm beten, nachdem sie ihn im Namen des Herrn mit Öl gesalbt haben;

5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick man. And the Lord shall raise him up: and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him.

5:15 alsdann wird das gläubige Gebet den Kranken retten, und der Herr wird ihn aufrichten, und wenn er Sünden begangen hat, wird ihm Vergebung zuteil werden.

5:16 Confess therefore your sins one to another: and pray one for another, that you may be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man availeth much.

5:16 Bekennet also einander die Sünden und betet füreinander, damit ihr Heilung erlangt; das Gebet eines Gerechten besitzt eine große Kraft, wenn es ernstlich ist.

5:17 Elias was a man passible like unto us: and with prayer he prayed that it might not rain upon the earth. And it rained not for three years and six months.

5:17 Elia war ein Mensch von gleicher Art wie wir und betete inständig, es möchte nicht regnen; da regnete es drei und ein halbes Jahr lang nicht im Lande.

5:18 And he prayed again. And the heaven gave rain: and the earth brought forth her fruit.

5:18 Er betete dann nochmals: da gab der Himmel wieder Regen, und die Erde ließ ihre Frucht sprossen.

5:19 My brethren, if any of you err from the truth and one convert him:

5:19 Meine Brüder, wenn jemand unter euch von der Wahrheit abgeirrt ist und einer ihn zur Umkehr bringt,

5:20 He must know that he who causeth a sinner to be converted from the error of his way shall save his soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.

5:20 so soll er wissen: Wer einen Sünder von seinem Irrweg bekehrt, der wird damit seine Seele vom Tode retten und eine Menge von Sünden bedecken.
