5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And every one that loveth him who begot, loveth him also who is born of him.

5:1 Jeder, der da glaubt, daß Jesus der Gottgesalbte ist, der ist aus Gott erzeugt, und jeder, der seinen Vater liebt, liebt auch dessen Kinder.

5:2 In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep his commandments.

5:2 Daran erkennen wir, daß wir die Kinder Gottes lieben, wenn wir Gott lieben und seine Gebote erfüllen.

5:3 For this is the charity of God: That we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy.

5:3 Denn das ist die Liebe zu Gott, daß wir seine Gebote halten; und seine Gebote sind nicht schwer;

5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world. And this is the victory which overcameth the world: Our faith.

5:4 denn alles, was aus Gott erzeugt ist, überwindet die Welt; und dies ist die Siegesmacht, welche die Welt überwunden hat: unser Glaube.

5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

5:5 Wer anders aber ist es, der die Welt überwindet, außer dem, welcher glaubt, daß Jesus der Sohn Gottes ist?

5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water only but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit which testifieth that Christ is the truth.

5:6 Dieser ist es, der durch Wasser und Blut gekommen ist, Jesus Christus; nicht im Wasser allein, sondern im Wasser und im Blut; und der Geist ist es, der Zeugnis (für ihn) ablegt, weil der Geist die Wahrheit ist.

5:7 And there are Three who give testimony in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one.

5:7 Drei sind es nämlich, die Zeugnis ablegen:

5:8 And there are three that give testimony on earth: the spirit and the water and the blood. And these three are one.

5:8 der Geist, das Wasser und das Blut; und diese drei sind vereint.

5:9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater, because he hath testified of his Son.

5:9 Wenn wir schon das Zeugnis der Menschen annehmen, so hat das Zeugnis Gottes doch noch größere Kraft; denn darin besteht das Zeugnis Gottes, daß er Zeugnis über seinen Sohn abgelegt hat.

5:10 He that believeth in the Son of God hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son.

5:10 Wer an den Sohn Gottes glaubt, hat das Zeugnis in ihm. Wer (dagegen) Gott nicht glaubt, hat ihn (damit) zum Lügner gemacht; denn er hat dem Zeugnis, das Gott über seinen Sohn abgelegt hat, keinen Glauben geschenkt.

5:11 And this is the testimony that God hath given to us eternal life. And this life is in his Son.

5:11 Und dies Zeugnis lautet so: »Gott hat uns ewiges Leben gegeben, und dieses Leben ist in seinem Sohne vorhanden.

5:12 He that hath the Son hath life. He that hath not the Son hath not life.

5:12 Wer den Sohn hat, der hat das Leben; wer den Sohn Gottes nicht hat, der hat auch das Leben nicht.«

5:13 These things I write to you that you may know that you have eternal life: you who believe in the name of the Son of God.

5:13 Dies habe ich euch, die ihr an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes glaubt, geschrieben, damit ihr wißt, daß ihr ewiges Leben habt.

5:14 And this is the confidence which we have towards him: That, whatsoever we shall ask according to his will, he heareth us.

5:14 Und dies ist die freudige Zuversicht, die wir zu ihm haben, daß, wenn wir ihn um etwas nach seinem Willen bitten, er uns erhört.

5:15 And we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask: we know that we have the petitions which we request of him.

5:15 Und wenn wir wissen, daß er alle unsere Bitten erhört, so wissen wir (zugleich), daß die Bitten, die wir vor ihn gebracht haben, uns schon gewährt sind. –

5:16 He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask: and life shall be given to him who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death. For that I say not that any man ask.

5:16 Wenn jemand seinen Bruder eine Sünde begehen sieht, eine Sünde, die nicht zum Tode ist, so soll er (für ihn) bitten und ihm dadurch zum Leben verhelfen, nämlich denen, die nicht zum Tode sündigen. Es gibt (nämlich) auch eine Sünde zum Tode; von dieser sage ich nicht, daß man (für eine solche) Fürbitte einlegen soll.

5:17 All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death.

5:17 Jede Ungerechtigkeit ist Sünde; doch es gibt auch Sünde, die nicht zum Tode ist.

5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not: but the generation of God preserveth him and the wicked one toucheth him not.

5:18 Wir wissen, daß jeder, der aus Gott erzeugt ist, nicht sündigt, sondern wer aus Gott erzeugt ist, bewahrt sich, und der Böse tastet ihn nicht an.

5:19 We know that we are of God and the whole world is seated in wickedness.

5:19 Wir wissen, daß wir aus Gott sind, die ganze Welt dagegen im Argen liegt.

5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come. And he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal.

5:20 Wir wissen aber (auch), daß der Sohn Gottes gekommen ist und uns Einsicht verliehen hat, damit wir den Wahrhaftigen erkennen; und wir sind in dem Wahrhaftigen, (indem wir) in seinem Sohne Jesus Christus (sind). Dieser ist der wahrhaftige Gott und ewiges Leben.

5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
