1. The Agony in the Garden

Step 6 of 34

1. The Agony in the Garden

We contemplate Christ in Gethsemane, prostrate upon the earth, His soul sorrowful unto death. He foresees the sins of the world and the sufferings that await Him. His sweat becomes as drops of blood, yet He prays: “Not My will, but Thine be done.”

This mystery teaches conformity to the divine will. True discipleship is proven in conflict. To unite our will to God’s in fear, darkness, or desolation is the highest act of faith. Obedience in anguish sanctifies suffering.
